  1. Art in New York City is an annual study trip led by Susan Czechowski in the art department to museums and art sites in New York. We went for 10 days in early June and walked all over the city. (We averaged 8,000 – 10,000 steps a day. The equivalent of 4-5 miles!) We visited the “main” museums including MOMA, the Met, and the Guggenheim. As well as the Frick, the Cloisters, Cooper-Hewitt, the Neue Museum, the New Museum in Harlem, and the Brooklyn Museum of Art. We also visited Chelsea and Soho art galleries, visited a couple of artist studios, attended an art auction, and even went to a Broadway show. This was a really great way to compare and contrast museums for their missions, education programs, facilities, and exhibit designs. I would highly recommend it for anyone in museum studies. Melanie Stimmel and I were on the 2009 trip…and we both have loads of pictures if you’d like to see them. Or let us know if you have questions…we’d be happy to share our stories.

  2. That sounds like a lot of fun Peggy. Please let us know when the next trip is happening and where we could go for more information. What was the cost of the trip? What was included and what was out of pocket? Was it a WIU class for credit? Thanks for sharing your experience!
